Recent legislation has empowered the States to devise and offer Medicaid Buy-In programs. These programs would allow individuals with disabilities who would not otherwise be eligible for Medicaid to gain Medicaid coverage. Those with incomes over some specified amount are required to "buy-in" by paying a premium (and perhaps by paying for some amount of their medical expenses (called a deductible) prior to receiving Medicaid coverage.
SSA posts a list of the States that are implementing and planning to implement Medicaid Buy-Ins. Information about the status of each state, current as of 01/23/2004, is provided below. First is a map that displays the information graphically, followed by a table that provides the same information in a text format.
