Your Supplemental Security Income (SSI) cash benefit is zero because the sum of your earnings plus spousal deeming is too much to allow for any SSI benefit payment.
You may be able to take advantage of the SSI 1619(b) work incentive, which provides continued Medicaid coverage for SSI recipients when their earnings become too high to allow an SSI cash payment.
In order to keep Medicaid, you must inform the Social Security Administration (SSA) and the state Medicaid agency that you need Medicaid to work. (See Medicaid Need Test section of SSI Work Incentive - 1619(b) topic.)
You should contact your SSA Claims Representative to verify the numbers SSA is using to calculate spousal deeming, as well as the actual deemed amount.
See the SSA Sample 1619(b) Referral Letter topic for an example of what to include when notifying SSA about your need for continued Medicaid. You may be able to use the sample letter shown in the Virginia DSS Sample 1619(b) Referral Letter topic as a model for what to include when notifying the eligibility worker at your state Medicaid agency.
NOTE: This version of WorkWORLD does not ask enough questions about spousal income to calculate the amount that would be deemed. Whether or not a future version will do so depends on user demand. If you want WorkWORLD to calculate spousal deeming, visit http://www.workworld.org/ and let us know.
