Veterans' Services - Annuity Benefits - Massachusetts

The Commonwealth of Massachusetts and the Department of Veterans' Services provide an annuity in the amount of $1500 that is payable biannually on August 1st and February 1st in two installments of $750 each. This annuity is given in recognition of the service of distinguished veterans, to the surviving parents (Gold Star Parents) and un-remarried spouses (Gold Star Wives or Husbands) of deceased veterans who gave their lives in the service of their country during wartime. Each has a separate application form.

Eligibility for annuity benefit by Veteran

The following standards must be met for applicant veterans to qualify for the special annuity payment of $1,500:

·      Was a resident of Massachusetts at the time of his/her entry into military service

·      Meets service time requirements

·      Has received any discharge from military service other than a dishonorable discharge

·      Is a resident of Massachusetts at the time of applying for the annuity and continues to be a resident of Massachusetts

·      Meets the requirements for blindness, paraplegia, double amputation or other disability set and certified by the Department of Veterans Affairs

Application procedure for annuity benefit by surviving parents or unremarried spouse

Surviving parents or un-remarried spouses must be residents of Massachusetts from the date of application and while in receipt of the annuity payments.

To receive the annuity, the applicant must complete the application and the IRS W-9 form. An application may be obtained by regular mail by calling the local Veterans' Agent at the local city/town hall, or from the Department of Veterans Services.
