It is possible to accept temporary full-time employment during the period of eligibility for UI benefits.
Once employment is accepted, claimants are held to the same eligibility requirements as applied at the time of the initial claim. This means that if the individual quits the job without good cause or is fired for misconduct, he or she can be disqualified for the remainder of the claim. This applies even if the work job is as short as a day and the employer reports that the individual quit or was fired for deliberate misconduct.
If this happens, an issue will be established on the claim, and the individual will need to speak to a Division of Employment and Training (DET) service representative. If disqualified, the individual has the right to appeal.
If the claimant does not sign for benefits for a two-week period, he or she will have to reopen the claim.
