TANF Benefit Payments - Oklahoma

Amount of Assistance Payment

The amount of the Assistance Payment to a Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) family is equal to the Payment Standard minus the family's net income.

Payment Standard.

If Oklahoma has sufficient funds, then the Payment Standard is equal to the Standard of Need listed in DHS Appendix C-1, Schedule IX, Schedule of Maximum Income, Resource and Payment Standards, for the appropriate number of persons. (Requires Adobe Acrobat Reader.)

If funds in any category of assistance are not sufficient to meet the full need of all individuals in that category within agency policy, the Commission for Human Services specifies the percentage of total requirements for which funds are available. In that case, the Payment Standard is the need standard multiplied by the percent specified by the Commission. The Payment Standard is also listed in Schedule IX of DHS DHS Appendix C-1.

Family Net Income.

The Net Income used to calculate the Assistance Payment Amount is equal to the Gross Unearned Income plus the Gross Earned Income minus the Earned Income Exclusions and minus the Income Disregards.

Maximum benefits.

The maximum benefit a Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) assistance unit is eligible to receive cannot exceed a nine-person payment standard.

If financial assistance is requested for children who move into a TANF household that is receiving maximum benefits, the children remain in their own cases if they exist or the social services specialist takes applications for their needs only.

Minimum payments.

The minimum TANF benefit is $10 except for recoupment of overpayment. No TANF benefit is issued when the family is eligible for a monthly benefit of less than $10. However, the TANF case is eligible as an active case in "Special Medical Status" and the family can receive Food Stamps in this case, if eligible.

Payment to minors.

Minors 16 years of age or older may be considered as the adult payee for TANF on behalf of others if the individual is assuming the responsibilities of an adult and meets all conditions of eligibility for TANF. Minors 15 years of age or under may be counted as an adult on a case if the qualifications of adult responsibility are met. However, they cannot be the payee on the case.
