If you are an SSI recipient with work expenses that are not related to your disability, your SSI benefit amount may increase by up to 100% of the expenses if you include them in a Plan for Achieving Self-Support (PASS). (The actual amount of the benefit increase depends on many variables. Use WorkWORLD to describe "What-If?" situations and find out how your SSI benefit will be affected in your circumstances.)
If you are a SSDI (Title II) beneficiary, then such expenses may be included in a PASS that makes you eligible for SSI if your resulting countable income is less than the Federal Benefit Rate (FBR), if you also meet the SSI resource criteria , and if your countable earnings do not exceed the Substantial Gainful Activity (SGA) level.
In both circumstances SSA must agree that a PASS may help you achieve a vocational goal that makes you financially more self-supporting.
If you are an SSI recipient and are blind, then you may be able to increase your benefit amount by up to 100% of all your work expenses by claiming them as Blind Work Expenses (BWEs).
