Medicaid Program - Head and Spinal Cord Injured (HASCI) HCBW - South Carolina

The Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) and the Department of Disabilities and Special Needs (DDSN) provide a broad range of Home and Community Based Waiver (HCBW) services to Medicaid eligible individuals with the most severe physical impairments involving head and spinal cord injuries. This program is designed to assist individuals to remain independent in the community who would otherwise require services in a nursing facility or intermediate care facility for the mentally retarded. DDSN has the primary responsibility for the daily operation of the HASCI program. DHHS provides administrative oversight and monitors the program to ensure the health, safety and welfare of the waiver recipients.

Services in the Head and Spinal Cord Injured Waiver include:

·          Respite Care

·          Personal Emergency Response System (PERS)

·          Nursing Services

·          Psychological Services

·          Communication Services

·          Physical Therapy

·          Occupational Therapy

·          Attendant Care

·          Prescription Drugs

·          Specialized Supplies and Modifications

·          Residential Habilitation

·          Day Habilitation

·          Pre-Vocational Habilitation

·          Supported Employment

Point of entry is the Head and Spinal Cord Injury (HASCI) Division Information and Referral Service at 1-866-867-3864 (toll-free) in Columbia, to be screened for referral to DDSN's Head and Spinal Cord Injury (HASCI) Division.
