Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program - Energy Crisis Response - Oklahoma

When a household is approved for LIHEAP emergency energy assistance through Expedited Services (ES) or through the Energy Crisis Assistance Program (ECAP), assistance is provided to resolve the crisis situation within 48 hours of the time of application, unless the crisis is considered life-threatening, in which case intervention is provided within 18 hours of application.

Following verification of the crisis and determination of eligibility, the Department of Human Services contacts the fuel supplier to schedule fuel delivery as soon as possible. All payments for crisis assistance are made directly to the energy supplier, with rare exception.

Energy crisis situations are handled through ES during the regular Heating Assistance Program cycle, and through the ECAP in March.

Recipients of Expedited Services do not receive a heating assistance payment in February.
