The South Carolina State Housing Finance and Development Authority administers a number of Federal and State programs directed at low and low-to-moderate income South Carolinians. The Housing Authority is self-sustaining and receives no State appropriation. Through the Authority, individuals and families in South Carolina have a variety of housing support programs available to assist them to find and secure safe, decent, and affordable housing.
The Housing Authority administers a contract from the US Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) for oversight of rent subsidies through the Section 8 Rental Assistance Program, as well as numerous other housing support programs:
· Housing Choice Voucher
· Homeownership Voucher
· Project Based Certificates
· Moderate Rehabilitation Program
· Multifamily Tax Exempt Bond Financing Program
· Low Income Housing Tax Credit Program
· Single Family Homeownership Program
· Homeownership Mortgage Revenue Bond Program.
· Home Investment Partnerships Program (HOME)
The South Carolina Housing Trust Fund commits State funds to help low income citizens finance affordable rental and home ownership opportunities. The Fund maximizes the use of federal, state and/or other housing assistance programs and leverages all other available public and private resources by establishing partnerships between government, qualified non-profit sponsors, for-profit sponsors, and those in need of affordable housing.
