Homeless - SNAP (Food Stamps)

For the purposes of the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP, formerly Food Stamp Program), you are a homeless individual or household if you lack a fixed and regular nighttime residence, or are an individual or household whose primary nighttime residence is:

(1) A supervised shelter designed to provide temporary accommodations (such as a welfare hotel or congregate shelter);

(2) A halfway house or similar institution that provides temporary residence for individuals intended to be institutionalized;

(3) A temporary accommodation for not more than 90 days in the residence of another individual; or

(4) A place not designed for, or ordinarily used, as a regular sleeping accommodation for human beings (a hallway, a bus station, a lobby or similar places).

Answer "YES" to the WorkWORLD question "Are you homeless?" if you match the description above.

If you are homeless, your children and your other dependents (if any) living with you are eligible for SNAP (Food Stamps) benefits if you are eligible. Additionally, your household may be eligible for the Homeless Shelter Deduction.

Depending on your circumstances, WorkWORLD may ask you later if you have any expenses related to the costs of shelter. If not, WorkWORLD will not ask you any questions related to costs of housing, such as rent and utilities.
