Family Independence Program - Transitional Medicaid - South Carolina

The South Carolina Department of Social Services will provide transitional Medicaid for 12 additional months, up to a total of 24 months, for Family Independence Program (FIP) recipients who meet the following criteria:

·      FIP recipients who no longer receive a cash payment and whose cash payments were terminated due to loss or reduction of earned income disregards or increased earnings

·      FIP recipients who formerly received a cash payment and who were employed at the time their case was closed

·      FIP recipients who formerly received a cash payment and whose cash payments were terminated due to the 24 month time limit expiration, who become employed and (a) requested assistance within 24 months from FIP case closure and (b) whose income did not exceed 125% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines

Eligibility will cease if any of the following occurs:

·      The recipient no longer has a dependent child in the home

·      Employment ends (a 30-day interruption to go from one job to another job will be deemed continuous employment)

·      The client's income exceeds 175% of the Health and Human Services Federal Poverty Guidelines.

Assistance may be provided for up to 24 months from the first month of eligibility
