Department of Disabilities and Special Needs (DDSN) - Day Services for Adults - South Carolina

Planning for transition from school to adult day services is a support available from the South Carolina Department of of Disabilities and Special Needs (DDSN) through local Disabilities and Special Needs (DSN) Boards. The Boards also provide supported employment and center-based work programs in local communities.

Supported employment provides assistance in sustaining employment. This service provides wages and opportunities to interact with other workers. Supported employment includes job coach, enclave and mobile work crew opportunities:

·      Job coaches develop employment opportunities and work with individuals to teach them the skills necessary to perform and maintain a particular job. Assistance is also provided to help individuals develop job-related skills such as money management, use of transportation, and interpersonal skill development.

·      Enclaves provide job opportunities for groups of adults at a local industry or business. These jobs often lead to competitive employment for individuals.

·      Mobile work crews train teams of adults to work in their community and perform services at dispersed sited, such as lawn care, janitorial, or landscaping services.

Center-based services provide an environment for people to develop vocational, social, and personal care skills. Participants may receive competitive wages for work.
