Just who is considered a "child" for purposes of determining eligibility for various benefits depends upon the particular program.
Eligibility criteria for the Iowa Family Investment Program (FIP) and the Family Medical Assistance Program (FMAP) specify that the Family must include a child under 18 (or an 18-year-old who is a full-time student in high school or an equivalent program and who is expected to complete the program before age 19).
Eligibility criteria for the Child Medical Assistance Program (CMAP) specify that children must be under the age of 21.
Eligibility criteria for the Mothers and Children (MAC) Program specify that pregnant women, infants and children up to age 19 may be eligible.
Eligibility for Child Care Assistance is limited to children up to age 13 except that children who are part of a FIP household who are 13 years and older may be eligible if there are special circumstances surrounding the child in need of child care. (See: Child Care Assistance Age of Child.)
