Advocacy services are available to citizens with disabilities and their families through a variety of South Carolina State government agencies and through independent advocacy organizations located throughout the state. Advocacy services are designed to:
· help individuals and families understand rules and procedures that affect their access to and participation in services,
· ensure that individual and family rights are protected, and
· investigate and resolve consumer complaints.
Protection and Advocacy for People with Disabilities, Inc. (P&A) is mandated by State and Federal law to protect the rights of all people with disabilities in South Carolina. As required by Federal law, P&A is independent of all agencies that provide treatment or other services to people with disabilities. See the Protection and Advocacy for People with Disabilities, Inc. - South Carolina topic for complete information.
