WorkWORLD asks if you or anyone in your family is in the military because "Special Pay for being exposed to hostile fire" is exempt when determining gross non-excluded income (and therefore, financial eligibility for Section 8 assistance and the amount your family has to pay in rent and utilities).
Answer "YES" if you or anyone in your family is a member of the United States Army, Navy, Air Force or Marines, or in the National Guard.
Be sure to include all income, including Special Pay for being exposed to hostile fire, when answering WorkWORLD's question about earned income. WorkWORLD will ask later if any of the earned income is such Special Pay and will subtract that amount in calculating your gross non-excluded income.
