VA Dependent Child - Medicaid LIFC Eligibility

In order for a family to be eligible for Medicaid under the Low Income Families with Children (LIFC) covered group, at least one child must be:

·             Under the age of 18; or

·             Under the age of 19 and a full-time student in a secondary school (or in the equivalent level of vocational or technical training) and be reasonably expected to complete the program of such secondary school (or such training) before attaining age 19.

And, the child must be living with a relative of the first, second, third, fourth or fifth degree of relationship in a place of residence maintained by one or more of such relatives as his or their own home.

The list of relatives who are within the fifth degree of relationship can be found in M0310.107 of the Department of Social Services (DSS) Medicaid Manual. The definition of dependent child is in M0310.111.
