VA Access Virginia

Access Virginia logo

The Virginia Housing Development Authority (VHDA) and the Virginia Board for People with Disabilities created Access Virginia, an online housing registry designed to help Virginians with disabilities find accessible, affordable apartments and learn more about accessibility requirements.

Access Virginia allows those with disabilities to look for accessible, affordable housing in a one-stop shopping format. Virginians with disabilities (almost 30% of the state population) can now go to Access Virginia to find an affordable, accessible place to live. It features a large database of apartments that offer a wide variety of accessibility features, including wider doors, grab bars, roll-in showers and lower countertops.

Through the website, individuals can access the Apartment Finder and a variety of other information ranging from home plans to accessible kitchen appliances. The web site also will help visitors locate specific information about building products designed for people with disabilities. These resources can help people who are planning to rent an apartment, build a new home or renovate their existing home.

Access Virginia will add more rental listings as well as links to other web pages. Also, it will work with Centers for Independent Living to create public awareness of accessibility issues. The registry lists both subsidized and market rate units.

The Access Virginia website is online at:
