Supplemental Security Income (SSI) - SNAP [Food Stamps]

Supplemental Security Income (SSI) pays monthly checks to people with limited income who are either 65 or older, or blind, or have a disability and who meet certain asset and income limits. Both children and adults can receive SSI, which is sometimes called Title XVI benefits. The basic SSI payment is the same nationwide. However, some states add money to the basic benefit by providing a state supplement.

In the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP, formerly Food Stamp Program), the basic SSI payment and the state supplement (if there is one) are counted as unearned income.

Include any amount of the payment being recouped if due to adjudicated fraud. Otherwise, exclude any amount being recouped.

Also exclude fees paid from SSI to organizational representative payees.

Income set aside for a PASS is not included when determining the household's gross or net income. Consequently, if a household member participates in a PASS, any earned or unearned income set aside for the PASS should not be counted.
