Specified Low Income Medicare Beneficiaries (SLMB) - Iowa

Medicaid will pay the cost of the Medicare Part B premiums for those who meet all the following conditions:

·     Are entitled to Medicare Part A which provides benefits for hospital care.

·     Monthly income exceeds 100% of the federal poverty level for the family size but is less than 120% of this level.

Click on Desk Aid and see the SLMB Income limits.

NOTE: You must have a web browser (such as Internet Explorer or Netscape) installed in order to view the Desk Aid.

·     Resources do not exceed twice the maximum allowed by the SSI program. Resources are treated according to SSI policy. The resource limits for the SLMB group are $4,000 for an individual and $6,000 for a couple.

NOTE: These income limits and resource numbers are accurate in 2005. After that, if you are connected to the Internet, you can click here to see the Desk Aid on-line.

You must have Adobe Acrobat Reader installed in order to view the on-line version. If you do not have the Reader installed, you can download it free from: www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep.html

·     Meets general SSI-related Medicaid eligibility requirements.

Payment of the Part B premium for these "specified low-income Medicare beneficiaries" (SLMBs) is the only service Medicaid will cover. Medicare co-payments, deductibles, and Part A are not covered in this coverage group.
