WorkWORLD cannot calculate Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP, formerly Food Stamp Program) benefits for you because you reported that you are a resident of an ineligible institution. Generally, residents of institutions (i.e., long-term care facilities) are not eligible for SNAP (Food Stamps). You are considered a resident of an institution if you receive more than 50 percent of your meals from the institution in which you reside.
However, some institutional residents can receive SNAP benefits. If you live in a long-term care facility or institution which is one of the types described below, go back and answer "YES" to the question "Do you live in an eligible institution?" WorkWORLD will then be able to calculate SNAP benefits for you.
If you meet one of the following criteria, then you live in an Eligible Institution and are eligible, if otherwise qualified, to receive SNAP:
· A disabled or blind resident of a non-profit group living arrangement which serves no more than 16 people,
· A resident of Federally subsidized housing for the elderly,
· A resident of a public or private residential facility which serves battered women and their children,
· A resident of a public or private non-profit shelter for the homeless, or
· A narcotics addict or alcoholic who is regularly participating in a licensed chemical dependency treatment or rehabilitation facility. However, people who participate only in a detoxification program are not eligible for SNAP while in the facility. Children living with their parents in a treatment facility are eligible if the parents are eligible.
