If you are a SSDI (Title II) beneficiary receiving Medicare, then you can continue to receive free Medicare Part A benefits for at least 93 months following a completed Trial Work Period (TWP).
IMPORTANT NOTE: The Ticket to Work and Work Incentives Improvement Act of 1999 (TWWIIA) expands Medicare coverage to people with disabilities who work. It extends Part A premium-free coverage for four and one-half years (54 months) beyond the current limit of 39 months for most Social Security disability beneficiaries who work, for a total of at least 93 months or 7 ¾ years. To apply for the expanded coverage, you must have exceeded the current limit.
When your Medicare is finally terminated, you may continue to be eligible if your income is low enough, through your state's Medicaid system. Check with Social Services.
Alternatively, you may choose to buy into Medicare to continue your coverage. See Medicare Buy-In for People with Disabilities Who Work.
NOTE: In the 2001 version of its "Red Book," the Social Security Administration (SSA) began using the term "Employment Supports" in place of "Work Incentives." See the SSA Red Book topic for additional information. The latest version of SSA's Red Book on Employment Support is available at: http://www.socialsecurity.gov/redbook/
