Medicaid Program - Medicare Expenses - Oklahoma

Seniors may qualify to have Medicaid pay their Medicare premiums, co-payments, and deductibles. There are different levels of assistance based on income and resources:

·             Under the Qualified Medicare Beneficiary (QMB) program, Medicare premiums, co-payments, and deductibles are covered. QMB Plus includes the QMB benefits as well as three prescription drugs per month and other medical services.

·             Under the Specified Low-Income Medicare Beneficiaries (SLMB) program, Medicare Part B premiums are paid.

·             The Qualifying Individual (QI) program is available to individuals who are enrolled for Medicare hospital insurance benefits under Part A, including those who have voluntarily enrolled in the premium-paying Part A program.

Monthly income and resource limits to qualify for Medicare assistance under these programs may be found in Oklahoma DHS Appendix C-1. See Schedule VI for QMB, Schedule VII for SLMB, Schedule VII.A for QI-1, and Schedule VII.B for QI-2.

The cost of the Medicare Part B premium, taken out of the Social Security check each month, should be added back into the Social Security check to see if current income is within these limits.

NOTE: These figures are adjusted annually and are changed in April of each year.
