Medicaid is the only public program that provides substantial coverage for long-term care. Long Term Care programs are designed to improve the overall quality of care for long-term care residents.
The Oklahoma Health Care Authority (OHCA) is responsible for the oversight of many Long Term Care programs, including those listed below.
Provides 24-hour skilled care and related services for residents who require medical or nursing care.
Provides specialized services and staffing to meet the needs of people with mental retardation.
Offers or provides residential accommodations, food service, and supportive assistance. May provide assistance with meals, dressing, bathing, and other personal needs. May assist in the administration of medications, but does not provide medical care.
Provides assistance with personal care, medications, and ambulation. May also provide nursing supervision and intermittent or unscheduled nursing care, but does not provide 24-hour skilled nursing care as is provided in a nursing facility.
Combines the services of a nursing facility with an assisted living center or an adult day care center.
Provides health, social supportive, and recreational services to adults with disabilities for more than four hours per day. Participants do not stay in the center overnight and continue to live in their own homes.
Provides skilled care and personal care services to clients in their residences. Includes licensed services such as those provided by a registered or licensed practical nurse, physical therapist, occupational therapist, speech therapist, respiratory therapist, or social worker.
Any time an aged, blind, or disabled individual is determined eligible for Long Term Care and Medicare, a separate determination must be made to see if the person meets eligibility conditions as a Qualified Medicare Beneficiary (QMB) or Specified Low-Income Medicare Beneficiary (SLMB).
Generally, no person may operate a long-term care service without first getting a license from the State Health Department:
