MassHealth Provider Acceptance

Once an application is approved, members receive a MassHealth ID card. Members should ask if their health-care provider takes MassHealth — all health-care providers who accept MassHealth also take MassHealth CommonHealth. Individuals should show the MassHealth ID card and any other health insurance card they carry whenever they see a health-care provider.

If the health-care provider does not take MassHealth, CommonHealth will not pay the provider. CommonHealth will not reimburse individuals for any payments they may make to these health-care providers.

For some medical services, other health care providers must get approval from CommonHealth first. If CommonHealth (MassHealth) doesn’t grant the health-care provider with this approval, members will be notified and they may appeal the decision.
