Lump-Sums Or One-Time Payments As Assets - SNAP (Food Stamps)

In the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP, formerly Food Stamp Program), lump-sums and one-time payments include the following:

· Income tax refunds, rebates, or credits;

· Retroactive lump-sum SSI payments;

· Retroactive lump sum social security (OASDI, RSDI);

· Retroactive railroad retirement pension payments;

· Retroactive lump-sum insurance settlements;

· Retroactive lump-sum TANF;

· Refund of security deposits on rental property or utilities;

· Retroactive veteran's benefits;

· Proceeds from sale of assets such as a home;

· Lawsuit settlement;

· Retroactive unemployment compensation;

· Lottery winnings; and

· Inheritances.

Count lump-sum payments as assets in the month received and in the following months they are not used to cover household needs.

If the lump-sum is not listed above, then count it as income.
