You indicated that you would like to receive SSI and Medicaid but you believe that your income or resources are too great to allow you to be eligible. This Alert is based on your responses to these questions as well as the Work Expense Information you entered. Either you reported no disability related work expenses, or the amount you reported was less than the amount that would allow you to meet the SGA threshold for SSI eligibility.
You should double check your answers to these questions and make sure your answers are accurate.
It appears that, in fact, your gross earned income exceeds the Substantial Gainful Activity (SGA) limit. If, however, you had disability-related work expenses of at least the amount shown in the text result and included them in an "IRWE to Meet SGA Test", then SSA would normally determine that you are not earning above the SGA level. You would then become eligible for SSI benefits (assuming that you are otherwise eligible).
If you can legitimately claim disability-related work expenses (not just normal work expenses) in an IRWE (remember, you must be able to justify your claim to SSA), WorkWORLD can assist you in determining what the consequences might be on your net income and benefits. You can begin to do this by following this procedure:
1. Create a New Situation by clicking the New Situation icon on the Toolbar or choosing Situation, New from the Main Menu.
2. If you have only entered one situation, the new situation will be based on it. Otherwise, choose the column containing this recommendation as the column on which to base the new situation. (The new column will contain the same answers as the chosen column until you make changes.)
3. Go to the top of the new column. Enter a situation label such as "IRWE for SSI Eligibility".
4. Under the Disability-Related Work Expense Information section, make sure the answer is Yes to the question "Do you have any work expenses due to your disability?".
5. For the following question "How much are your disability-related work expenses?" answer with your actual dollar amount. Remember that the amount of your expenses must be at least as the amount shown in the text result for you to be able to meet the SGA threshold limit.
6. In the Work Incentive Information section, under Impairment-Related Work Expense (IRWE) for SSI (Title XVI), answer Yes to the question "IRWE for SSI Eligibility (SGA): Are you claiming any of your work expenses in order to meet the SGA test for SSI Eligibility?".
7. Then enter the suggested amount already shown in the answer for the next question "How much of these work expenses are you including in an IRWE to meet the SGA test for SSI Eligibility?".
8. Under the Plan for Achieving Self-Support (PASS) section, answer No to the question "PASS reducing Countable Income: Are you claiming any of your employability investments and/or work expenses under a Plan for Achieving Self-Support?"
9. Finally, review the numeric and graph outputs for changes to your net income and benefits, and the text outputs for additional recommendations specific to your actual situation.
