Alert - Tenant Rent Amount Error

The amount that you entered as the Tenant Rent that you actually pay is different from the amount that WorkWORLD calculates you should be paying. This calculation error could be the result of one of three problems:

1.   You entered information about your rental unit or your family situation incorrectly; or

2.   You entered information correctly, but your Public Housing Agency (PHA) does not have the correct information; or

3.   Your situation is complicated in some way that is not handled correctly by WorkWORLD.

NOTE: If you are entering a hypothetical situation and you do not know the actual amount of the Tenant Rent, reopen the question, "Actual Section 8 Tenant Rent" in the Housing Information section and enter the amount specified in the Text Result.

Information Entered Incorrectly

Go back and make sure that you did not make an error in entering all of the information about your rental unit, your family composition, and your family's income, income exclusions, and expenses. If you find any errors, correct them.

PHA has Incorrect Information

If you find that you made no errors entering information into WorkWORLD, then you should contact your PHA and make sure that your PHA has the same information and is annualizing the information in the same way that you are.

If WorkWORLD calculates that you should be paying less in Section 8 rent, you may be paying more in rent than is required.

If WorkWORLD calculates that you should be paying more rent than you are paying, then your PHA may be overpaying the owner of the rental unit. When the PHA eventually discovers this overpayment, you will likely have to pay back the full overpayment amount. The sooner you get this cleared up, the less you will owe. (It is very risky to continue an overpayment situation because PHA's will quite likely find out at some point what is happening.)

WorkWORLD does not Handle your Situation Correctly

If you made no errors and your PHA has the same information that you entered into WorkWORLD, then you have discovered a programming error or omission. We would appreciate it very much if you would contact us so that we can learn about and fix the problem.

Go to our website: http://www.workworld.org/ and click on "Contact Us".

Or email us at workworld@vcu.edu.

Or call our Helpline: (804) 828-2665.

ALERT: Do not use WorkWORLD to calculate "What-If?" situations until you have found out the reason for the difference between your actual rent and WorkWORLD's calculations. If WorkWORLD is not calculating your current situation correctly, it will not calculate "What-If?" situations correctly.
