VA TANF - Grant Amount Calculations

To determine the TANF grant amount:

Subtract the countable income of your TANF Assistance Unit (AU) from the TANF Standard of Assistance for the size of your AU and the and the locality in which you live.

NOTE: Exclude all of the Earned Income Disregards and Other Income Disregards in determining the countable income to use when calculating your grant amount.

If the result is less than zero, the Assistance Unit (AU) is not financially eligible.

If the result is greater than zero, but less than $10.00, the AU is financially eligible for TANF, but will receive no TANF cash benefit.

If the result is greater than $9.99, the amount is the TANF Grant Amount for the Assistance Unit.

NOTE: TANF and TANF-UP recipients who participate in the VIEW program have their continued financial eligibility and grant amounts calculated using formulas different from the above. See VA VIEW - Grant Amount Calculations.
