VA Question: In-Kind Support

If you are to receive Medicaid coverage as part of a Protected Group such as SSI Disabled Child or Adult Disabled Child, one of the eligibility criteria is that you be income eligible.

To be income eligible, your countable income must be less than the Federal Benefit Rate (FBR). If your total food and shelter needs are contributed to you by someone other than your parents, then the FBR amount is 2/3rds of the full FBR amount.

If your food and shelter needs are contributed by your spouse or parents, then your FBR may not be reduced, but your income may be increased by an amount that is deemed to you.
