1. The first step for applying for Vocational Rehabilitation Services from the South Dakota Division of Rehabilitation Services (DRS) is to find the Division of Rehabilitation Services office or Division of Rehabilitation Services and Service to the Blind and Visually Impaired office that serves your county.
NOTE: If you are connected to the Internet you can find the local office by going to: http://www.state.sd.us/dhs/drs/vocrehab/county-vr.htm.
2. Next, contact the office and schedule a meeting to discuss services and complete a vocational rehabilitation application.
NOTE: Links to the applications for services are found at: http://www.state.sd.us/dhs/sbvi/forms/forms.htm.
3. The third step is to gather information about your disability, education and work history. Bringing this information with you can speed up the process.
4. The next step is for you and your counselor to identify and agree on your employment goal.
5. Finally, you and your counselor will develop a detailed plan of services available to help you achieve that goal.
The time it takes for you to reach your employment goal depends upon your individual needs.
