Resident Service Stipends are excluded by your Public Housing Agency (PHA) when determining your financial eligibility for Section 8 assistance and the amount you have to pay in Section 8 rent and utilities. This income is defined as:
"A resident service stipend is a modest amount (not to exceed $200 per month) received by a resident for performing a service for the PHA or owner, on a part-time basis, that enhances the quality of life in the development. Such services may include, but are not limited to, fire patrol, hall monitoring, lawn maintenance, resident initiatives coordination, and serving as a member of the PHA's governing board. No resident may receive more than one such stipend during the same period of time."
If you are unsure whether some of your family's income is of this type, check with your PHA.
If you included any excludable Resident Service Stipend income in the earned or unearned income that you entered in WorkWORLD, enter the amount of that income here.
NOTE: Do not include earnings of children under 18. Include up to $480 of earnings of each student. The earnings of children and over $480 of student earnings have already been excluded by WorkWORLD if you answered the questions about those earnings correctly.
WorkWORLD will include that amount in calculating your gross income, but it will subtract it when calculating your financial eligibility and the amount you have to pay in rent.
