Determining gross household income is the first step toward establishing the value of vouchers for participants in the Massachusetts Rental Voucher Program (MRVP). Certain items are included as countable income in determining gross household income. Specific exclusions and certain allowable deductions are applied to establish net household income, which is then used to determine the value of rental assistance vouchers for each household.
Gross household income is countable income from all sources of the head and co-head of the household, and each additional member of the household who is at least twenty-one (21) years of age. This income is expected to be received during the twelve (12) months following admission to the MRVP program or the 12 months following re-determination of household income.
One half (1/2) of the income of a working child, age 18-20, is included in the gross income. Income of a working child under the age of 18 is not included in the gross income, nor is the income of full-time students counted.
