The South Carolina Department of Social Services (SCDDS) requires applicants and recipients of the Family Independence Program (FIP) to sign an Individualized Self-Sufficiency Plan (ISSP) outlining employment and training requirements (unless exempt), educational activities, family skills training, and substance abuse treatment, if necessary.
Case managers will evaluate the FIP client's barriers to employment and will work with the client and local service providers to minimize barriers such as substance abuse, physical or learning disabilities, domestic violence and other impediments to employment.
Each adult FIP recipient and minor mother must participate in the Life Skills Training Program as a condition of eligibility even if exempt from the employment and training requirement.
