A grantee is exempt from registering for work with the Division of Employment and Training (DET) and from participating in Transitional Employment for Massachusetts Parents TEMP) if the grantee is:
· Disabled
· Essential to the care of a disabled person living in the home
· A pregnant woman whose child is expected to be born within the next 120 days
· A grantee whose youngest child in the household is under the age of two, or would be in the household except that he or she is in receipt of Supplemental Security Income (SSI)
· A grantee who is age 60 or older
In a two-parent family, only one parent may claim an exemption. In addition, in a two-parent family, if one parent claims an exemption as a disabled grantee, the other parent may not claim an exemption.
All claims to an exemption must be verified. Specific verification requirements are found at 106 CMR 320.425(B).
An exempt grantee remains exempt until no longer meeting the criteria for an exemption. The DTA must be notified as soon as circumstances change in a way that may affect exemption status.
