Deferred Supplemental Security Income (SSI) or Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) is excluded by your Public Housing Agency (PHA) when determining your financial eligibility for Section 8 assistance and the amount you have to pay in Section 8 rent and utilities. This income exclusion is defined as:
"Deferred periodic amounts from supplemental security income and social security benefits that are received in a lump sum amount or in prospective monthly amounts."
If, therefore, you are receiving payments to make up for previous underpayments, then your PHA should exclude that income when calculating your financial eligibility and rent amount. If you are unsure whether your deferred income is excludable, check with your PHA.
If you included any excludable deferred SSI or SSDI income in the unearned income that you entered in WorkWORLD, enter the amount of that income here.
WorkWORLD will include that amount in calculating your gross income, but it will subtract it when calculating your financial eligibility and the amount you have to pay in rent.
