DE Recommendation: Disabled Widow-Widower Medicaid Possible Eligibility

You lose eligibility for Supplemental Security Income (SSI) and its associated Medicaid coverage because you have too much unearned income not included in a Plan for Achieving Self Support (PASS).

However, if your SSI ineligibility is caused by receiving SSA widow or widower benefits, you may still be eligible for Medicaid until age 65 when you become eligible for Medicare.

To be eligible you must be income-eligible for SSI after disregarding the widow-widower benefit. Create a new situation in which you do not include your widow or widower benefit.

If WorkWORLD says you would then be eligible for SSI, contact the DE Department of Social Services (DSS) to determine if you are eligible for Medicaid as a Disabled Widow-Widower.
