The South Carolina Department of Social Services promotes workforce development as a cornerstone of welfare reform. The Community and Workforce Development Program creates sustainable employment and training opportunities for program participants and a variety of services and tax credits for employers who hire program participants.
Services to individuals include:
· Public/private employer contacts
· Family Independence Program information and referral
· Career goal setting and job skills/preparation services
· Job placement assistance
· Work assistance services
· Asset management, budgeting, and financial planning
· Micro-business start up services
· Technical assistance to County Directors and their Work Force Development staff
Services to employers include:
· Pre-screened applicant referrals
· No cost work experience program apprenticeships
· Training allowances
· Job fairs
· Tax credits
A variety of incentives are available to employers who hire individuals who participate in the Department of Social Services Community and Workforce Development Program:
· Family Independence Tax Credit
· Childcare Services Tax Credit
