Veterans in South Carolina are eligible for several special employment benefits if they meet specific eligibility standards. These are briefly described below.
Preference will be granted to eligible individuals for employment and/or an appointment in public departments or public works operating on a merit system. Veterans must be honorably discharged from the Armed Forces and must possess the skills and knowledge required for the position involved.
An employees of the State or any of its political subdivisions who has been, or will be commissioned, enlisted, or selected for service in the Armed Forces of the United States is entitled to a leave of absence from his/her duties without loss of seniority or efficiency or register rating.
