You have disability-related work expenses that are not included in an IRWE. At least some of those expenses may be recovered (by increasing your SSI check) if you include them in an IRWE.
NOTE: If you can include such expenses in a PASS (that is, if the expenses could help you move toward a goal that would make you more financially self-supporting) then you would probably be better off including them in a PASS (until you reach that goal) than in an IRWE.
NOTE - MAXIMUM ALLOWABLE AMOUNTS:
If you have no PASS: The IRWE amount can not exceed the amount of the disability-related work expense.
If you have a PASS: The sum of amounts for PASS, IRWE, and/or BWE can not exceed the sum of amounts for employability investments and work expenses (both disability-related and others).
If you are excluding income under the Student Earned Income Exclusion (SEIE), the amount can not exceed the amount of earned income that is not excluded, if any. This is not an SSA rule, but rather is a WorkWORLD requirement because of the way in which WorkWORLD calculates SEIE. Your actual IRWE may be larger but it will not result in a higher SSI cash benefit.
1. Create a New Situation.
2. Choose the column containing the recommendation as the column on which to base the new situation. (The new column will contain the same answers as the chosen column until you make changes.)
3. Go to the top of the new column and enter a situation label such as "Using IRWE" if you wish.
4. Then scroll down to the question in the Work Incentives section, " Are you claiming any of your disability related work expenses as Impairment Related Work Expenses (IRWEs)?" Answer, "Yes".
5. Refer to "Text Results" for the amount you can include in the IRWE. Enter the amount and accept it by hitting "Enter", or by clicking on the "Okay button", or by holding down the "Alt" and typing "O".
6. Review the Numerical or Graph Results and compare them to the Results for the previous situation.
