Florida WAGES - Countable Work Activities

The following activities, individually or in combination, satisfy the work requirements for a participant in the WAGES Program.

·      Unsubsidized employment

·      Subsidized private sector employment and subsidized public sector employment. Subsidies include:

1.   Work Supplementation (Grant Diversion)

2.   On-the Job Training

3.   Work Study

4.   Paid Work Experience

·      Community Service Work Experience

·      Work Experience Combined with Education

·      Job Search and Job Readiness Assistance (Employment Preparation)

·      Vocational Education or Training (with some restrictions)

·      Education services related to employment for participants who are 19 years of age or younger. This activity must be coordinated with School-to-Work activities and the participant must not have a high school diploma or GED.

·      Attendance at a high school or GED program for participants 19 years of age or younger, and

·      Providing childcare services for another WAGES participant who is participating in Community Service Work Experience.

If the individual participates a minimum of 20 hours per week in one or more of the activities listed above, the following activities will count towards meeting participation rate:

·      Job skills training directly related to employment (Customized Training)

·      For those without a high school diploma or GED, education directly related to employment.

·      Satisfactory attendance at a secondary school or in a GED class

Participation in job search and employment preparation is limited in two ways:

·      Job Search and Employment Preparation as a countable activity is limited to a total of six weeks in a federal fiscal year (October 1 through September 30.)

·      Job Search and/or Job readiness, as a countable activity, is limited to no more than four consecutive weeks.
