Child Support - SNAP (Food Stamps)

In the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP, formerly Food Stamp Program), child support is the voluntary or court-ordered payment of money by the absent parent(s) for the living expenses of his/her child(ren). Medical, dental, child care, and educational expenses can also be covered.

Child support may be paid directly to the child's caretaker, paid through the court to the caretaker, or paid to your state's child support enforcement agency.

Do not include child support payments that are required to be transferred to your state's child support enforcement agency in accordance with an official agreement between your household and the state agency. Any portion of a child support payment that is returned to you by your state under such an agreement is also counted as income.

If counted, child support payments are treated as unearned income.
