VA VIEW - Period of Ineligibility

VIEW participants and all of their natural and adopted children are ineligible for TANF for a period of twenty-four months beginning with the effective date of TANF case closure due to the VIEW twenty-four month time limit or beginning with the effective date of termination of transitional transportation whichever is latest.

This 24-Month Period of Ineligibility Applies to:

·      All natural or adoptive children in the assistance unit who received TANF while their caretaker/parents were participating in the VIEW Program;

·      Children subject to the TANF Family Cap provision;

·      Babies who are born to the participants or to the minor natural or adoptive children of the participants during their period of ineligibility;

·      All natural or adoptive children of the participants who move into the participants' homes during their period of ineligibility, even if the children did not receive TANF with the participants during VIEW participation or received assistance only for part of the time during VIEW participation; and

·      Any individuals who are sanctioned and are otherwise required to be members of the assistance unit.

Exceptions:

·      If the ineligible parent dies during the period of ineligibility, the children of that parent may receive TANF with another specified relative, if otherwise eligible.

·      Minor parents or children who turn 18 during the period of ineligibility may apply and receive TANF in their own right for themselves and their children, if otherwise eligible.

·      If it is determined that the parent became disabled during the period of ineligibility or became required to care for a household member with a disability, and such a disability or situation prevents employment, the parent and children in the family may receive TANF benefits without regard to the period of ineligibility.

The 24-month period of ineligibility status remains with any participating family members who move out of their parent's home during the period of ineligibility.
