VA TANF Note: No Stepparent Deeming

Because the stepparent's countable income is not high enough to make the parent ineligible for TANF benefits, the parent remains a member of the TANF Assistance Unit and there is no stepparent deeming.

You should ensure that:

· In entering the size of the size of the Assistance Unit, you counted the parent, but not the stepparent.

· If you are not the parent, you have included the parent's income when entering the income of "others in the Assistance Unit.

NOTE: If the stepparent is a member of the Assistance Unit, then the stepparent is counted in determining the unit's size, and if you are not the stepparent, the stepparent's income is included when you enter the income of "others in the Assistance Unit."
