Answer YES if your spouse receives any "unearned income" during the month.
The DSS Medicaid Policy Manual defines "unearned income" as all income that is not earned; that is, income that is not wages, salaries or net earnings from self-employment. (Earned income includes payments for services performed in a sheltered workshop or work activities center.)
Examples of unearned income are:
· Annuities, pensions, and other periodic payments;
· Alimony and support payments;
· Dividends, interest;
· Royalties and Honorarium that are not for published work or services rendered (such as travel expenses);
· Rents
· Benefits received as the result of another's death to the extent that the total amount exceeds the expenses of the deceased person's last illness and burial paid by the recipient;
· Prizes and awards.
Note, however, that there are a number of kinds of income that are defined in the manual as "Not Income."
