VA Question: Deemed Parental Resources

Enter the value of any parental resources that are deemed by SSA as being available to you if you are under age 21. Do not duplicate any resources that you already answered as belonging to you.

The rules for the deeming of resources are relatively simple (compared to the rules for the deeming of income).

The resources of the parent(s) are deemed to the child under age 21 to the extent that the value of the resources exceed the resource limit for an individual (if only one parent is present) or a couple (if both parents are living in the same household). If there is more than one child, the excess resources are divided among the children equally.

NOTE: In addition to the Resource Exclusions applied to the ABD individual, pension funds belonging to the Non-ABD spouse or parent are excluded from deeming.
