Enter YES if you have any Blind Work Expenses (BWE).
BWEs are any expenses reasonably related to your employment or self-employment. (The DSS Medicaid Policy Manual says that the expenses must be reasonably attributable to earning the income.)
BWEs can include:
· Any Federal, state or local taxes on the earnings.
· Attendant care expenses
· Professional licenses and fees
· Union dues
· Mandatory contributions for such things as pensions
· The value of meals consumed during work hours
· Medical services, devices and supplies
· Non-medical supplies such as uniforms, safety shoes, humidifiers, and tools
· Training related to work
The BWE exclusion applies only to earned income.
Expenses claimed on a self-employment tax return can not be counted.
For details on BWE, see Section S0820.535 of the Department of Social Services (DSS) Medicaid Manual.
