Financial eligibility for Medicaid in Virginia is determined in relation to specific Medicaid Resource Limits and Medicaid Income Limits. The income and resource limits are established in relation to the number of persons in the Assistance Unit and to the type of Covered Group to which the unit belongs.
NOTE: See the Medicaid Non-Financial Eligibility Requirements topic for additional eligibility considerations.
The assistance unit is the basis for the financial eligibility determination. Eligibility is based on the countable income and resources of the assistance unit members and the deemed resources and income deemed of legally responsible relatives who are not included in the assistance unit and who live in the home.
Eligibility for Medicaid coverage that pays Medicare premiums and/or deductibles and co-payments is limited to those who belong to one of the Medicare Related Covered Groups.
For both types of groups there are specific Medicaid Income Limits and Medicaid Resource Limits that apply.
NOTE: The Virginia Department of Social Services is establishing a web-based method for determining initial eligibility for Medicaid. Visit https://jupiter.dss.state.va.us/EligibilityScreening// to see if you are eligible.
