The South Dakota Division of Veterans Affairs (DVA) is an advocate of the veteran and the veteran's dependents and survivors. It is also a division of state government that exists to assist anyone in applying for veterans benefits through the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). Although it works closely with the federal Department of Veterans Affairs, it is not a part of that agency.
To provide expert claims service to every eligible South Dakota veteran and his/her dependents and survivors; to aid the veteran in understanding entitlements, which can minimize the burden of health and economic stress; to evaluate, approve, and supervise educational programs, which will benefit veterans in pursuit of education; and, to continue an ongoing training program for division staff, and county and tribal Veteran Service Officers.
WorkWORLD contains information about the following benefits:
· Emergency Loan Fund for Veterans and Dependents
· Free Tuition at State Supported Schools for Veterans and Dependents
· Reduced Tuition at State Supported Schools for Individuals Serving in the South Dakota National Guard
