SD Council on Developmental Disabilities (DD)

The mission of the Council on Developmental Disabilities is to assist individuals with developmental disabilities to control their own destiny and to achieve the quality of life they desire. It is one of the units within the Department of Human Services (DHS).

In order to create an environment in which individuals with developmental disabilities direct their own lives and participate more fully in the community, the Council:

·      Advocates and supports systems change;

·      Provides information, education, planning;

·      Monitors legislation, state plans and policies;

·      Promotes and supports best practices; and

·      Promotes partnerships among individuals with developmental disabilities, their families, coalitions, state agencies and service providers.
