Payment For Volunteer Programs - SNAP (Food Stamps)

In the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP, formerly Food Stamp Program), payments under Title I of the Domestic Volunteer Service Act of 1973 (i.e., VISTA, University Year for Action, and Urban Crime Prevention Program) are considered earned income for individuals who were not receiving public assistance or SNAP (Food Stamps) at the time they joined the program. If the individual was receiving public assistance or SNAP at the time s/he joined the Title I program, then the income is excluded as long as s/he remains in both programs.

Payments from the Service Corps of Retired Executives (SCORE) and Active Corps of Executives (ACE) are counted as earned income.

Payments from the following programs are excluded:

·        Americorps (for living allowances, education, or other purposes);

·        Foster Grandparents;

·        Senior Companion;

·        Retired Service Volunteer Program (RSVP);

·        Green Thumb Program;

·        Senior Health Aides Program;

·        Senior Companions; and

·        Older American Volunteer Program.
